Dream League Soccer 2019 brings the thrill of professional league soccer directly to your phone. The Dream League Soccer series has been released with regularity for years now, and while the core components here are the same as they have been for years, the latest version brings some cool new features that do a great job of creating an authentic soccer experience. And while the mechanical depth in this game isn't as complex as console soccer games like Pro Evolution, the fundamentals are strong and reflect a delightfully arcade take on what it's like to line up on the pitch. Large on screen controllers do a decent job of replicating the speed and fluidity of pro level players, but it's obviously not going to have the same level of simulation that's present in bigger budget productions.

Fortunately, you're doing a lot more than just controlling players one at a time. Just as important is the ability to build out your own team to your unique specifications. Rather than forcing you to pick an existing lineup from real world teams, Dream League Soccer relies on a dream team scenario. Over the course of the game, you'll be able to pick up players from all around the league, building out the perfect group of players from scratch. Official licensing from FIFA means that there's a good chance you'll be able to find your favorite players and recruit them to your side.

Rounding out the experience are some serious simulation elements. You can customize your team's colors and logo and even build your own stadium from scratch, but you'll definitely want to make sure that your team gets some time training. While each character has their own stats, they also develop more meaningful skills over time, and the RPG elements are one of the biggest appeals here. You'll be able to see how each player develops over time, and the thrill of getting better with each passing game is hard to beat.

You'll need a good team too. The campaign mode is a great way to cut your teeth on the gameplay fundamentals, but it's a pretty in depth mode in its own right. Working your way through six divisions and seven cup competitions will take quite some time, but there's plenty of other options waiting for you when you get bored. The multiplayer mode allows you to take on friends and strangers to see who's the best, but there's also a robust event mode that tasks you with specific challenges. These change regularly, giving you a great excuse to keep coming back to Dream League Soccer. The live events are probably the best feature here, and new rewards and ranking are rolled out on a regular basis. But if you find your internet connection acting spotty, the campaign is available without internet, and all of your offline progress will be saved for when you reconnect.

Dream League Soccer strives for a realistic graphical approach, and it manages to stick the landing despite the relatively simplistic graphics possible on mobile devices. While the players themselves don't always look that much like their real world inspiration, there's a naturalistic fluidity to the way that characters move, and the facial movements and environments provide a level of detail that's shockingly close to the real thing.
